The next step…

well we’ve taken the next step! after 7 years of dating, labor day weekend marc and I moved in together! We got our first apartment and I could not be happier about how everything worked out!

After a great weekend with Meg, we spent labor day moving and slightly unpacking. A HUGE thank you to my parents and to Marc’s parents for helping us move all of our stuff, clean the apartment and start to make the place feel like home.

We’ve been in the apartment for a month now and it truly feels like home to me. I found a new running path that I can go up to 8 miles on that is just right around the corner! We are living in clarence so we are only about 5-10 minutes from transit (for those of you who know what that is you know how exciting it can be to live so close to so many different restaurants/shops/stops/grocery stores/etc.)

While we have been there for a few weeks now we still aren’t completely settled in so I want to wait until a few more things are done before I start posting photos – for now you can enjoy my favorite to date. (Ps thank you meg for making us take this!)

Michigan 2012

It’s been almost a month since I’ve been back and I have been completely slacking with my posts.  I’m not going to apologize though, I’ve been living life and making some pretty big strides since my return… more on that later..

In short, Michigan was fantastic.  We didn’t spend too much time doing water sports, instead we spent a lot of time ‘off site’.    Here are some recaps from our trips.

Sand Dunes – What’s the most beautiful place in the USA?  It’s sleeping bear dunes national lakeshore in Michigan, according to a vote in 2011 by viewers of good morning america.  I’ve seen family photos of the place for a while and I’ve been secretly wanting to go myself.  This was my year!  We headed west to the sleeping bear dunes and much to my surprise, it was even better than I was anticipating.  First up we went to a smaller dune overlooking Lake Leland.  This is where we took turns running up and down the dunes and capturing some pretty fantastic photos.

Next up was the main attraction.  The dune everyone was warning me about.  The dune that was my ‘workout’ for the day.  Let me tell you.  They were not joking.  It took me just about a minute to run, skip and maneuver my way down this thing.  Thankfully it had rained that morning and it had packed the sand a little.  Thank you weather for a not so crowded and easier to climb experience.

The climb was amazing, but what really took my breathe away was the views.  It was blue as far as the eye could see.  Absolutely stunning.

Oh, and I just want to throw it out there… yours truly made it up the dune the fastest.

Paint Ball – This was my first experience paint balling.  Holy balls is it super scary and incredibly exhilarating!  Our instructor told us ladies, you will know within the first couple of minutes if you love it… or hate it.   Despite being the first one out in our first game (I swear the horn wasn’t even done buzzing before I got hit) and getting hit in the neck while I was in ‘the safezone’ I had an absolute ball.  We broke up into teams and played 3 different scenarios two times each.  Once was in the smaller space with big black tubes to hide behind, a more realistic field with old vehicles, houses , tires, sand dunes and other random objects to hide behind and the final course was just in the woods.  If I learned anything about myself during paint ball it’s that I am definitely more of a ‘guarder’ then a ‘run to the flag and get shot at allot’ type of person.  Again, after being hit in the neck (somehow I managed to get hit in the 1/2 ” of space where my neck wasn’t guarded) I was first to volunteer to be a guard. youillstayhiddenbehindsomewoodigotyoucovered.

I’m not sure how or when the decision was to play family paint ball instead of our normal family put put, but I was a fan!

Sand Bar – If you were to ask me where I want to live, in a dream situation.. water would definitely be involved.  In fact, I may have changed my answer this summer and could just say Elk Lake Michigan.  Especially because we headed to Torch Lake this year (they are connected – about an hour boat ride to get there from the cottage) and hit up the sandbar.  So.Much.Fun.  We pulled our two boats up (yup, we had to get a second boat to fit everyone this year) and anchored right in the swing of things.  Booze, bathing suits, snacks and music.

What else could we possibly need?  A floatie.. for Grandma.  Marc’s cousins and I went on a mission to find a tube or floatie for his grandma.  It was a bit wavy and she was uncomfortable with the water height and it was way too hot to stay up on the boat all day.  Mission accomplished.

Not too much after this happened… we may have been out of adult beverages and on a mission.  again, after a few bizarre looks, a long walk, a few ‘mystery shots’ and almost selling me to some strangers… mission accomplished.

I’d say we had a good time.

House painting – The warner’s bought the cottage next door and we spent allot of our vacation helping scrape and paint everything.  We took turns so it went by fairly quickly.  Many hands make light work.  In the end, it looked like a brand new cottage.  Teamwork FTW!

Washer Game – Each time I visit I try to do something nice for the warner’s.  I mean, they are letting me stay with their family for the week, it’s the least I can do.  This year, my dad and I made our family favorite game and sent it up to them.  Let’s just say… it was a hit.  I hope the game is used frequently and brings their family as many memories as it does my own.

Other Randoms –

what a stud 😉

paddle boating with Melissa and Tucker

just gotta throw it in there!

I realize this was a lot to read and if you’ve made it all the way to this point I am impressed and thankful.  A big thank you to the Garrison, Craig and Warner family for welcoming me into your lives and treating me as one of your own.  You truly have become family to me.  Looking forward to the years to come!!

I’m Backkkk!

The wait is finally over 😉 I know I’ve been a bad blogger for the past couple of days week and I apologize.  Life was just too busy and I (unexpectedly) didn’t have internet connection where I was staying and it totally threw me off!  To make up for my mistake, I’ll fill you in on the past week’s events via pictures.  Thank gosh for an iphone!

Sir Finley

I spent the week dog/house sitting.  Can you believe it, I got paid to hang out with 3 dogs (bruno the mini schnauzer, finley the horse goldendoodle and olive the dashund).  Talk about an amazing job.  Anyone else out there interested in going away and need a dog sitter – I’m your gal.

Ms. Olive

Horse status.

I’m not joking when I said Finley is as big as a horse.  Okay, well maybe he is the size of a pony, but still.  He’s huge and I wanted nothing more then hide him in my car and take him home with me.  Such a gentle giant.  Goldendoodles have definitely moved up in my favorite dog list… watch out Vizslas and Weimarainers!

night out on the town

I dusted off the old dancin’ shoes and went downtown with some of my friends.  Let’s just say my dance pants were on.  This night specifically got me so excited for my alumni weekend coming up in a short time.  ICFH, it’s time to put your big girl pants on…

Frog on Frog

I went cray fish hunting with Marc, Sarah and Mitch and we stumbled upon these guys.  What we originally thought was a huge frog turned out to be a frog latched on to another frog.  For a while there I was convinced that we should call the Guinness World Record people and let them know that we discovered two frogs fused together, but I’ve since learned that frog’s will not separate for up to 16 days when they are mating.  It would have been so much better if they were actually a two headed frog.  Buzzkill.

I also spent some time perusing the internets.  And found two things that I really want.  Well, I found more then two things, but these two are blog worthy. (warning, one is slightly inappropriate.  Enjoy!)

Budda Buttah.

I want one of these for my kitchen.  I bet I would laugh everytime I went to get butter.  Actually, now that I think about it, maybe I wouldn’t use as much butter if I saw this everytime…

And I’ll leave you with this for tonight… If you find these… please buy them for me and I will be one happy camper (pun intended).

It Goes By So Fast..

I know I know, I skipped a post yesterday.  Truth is…I didn’t get home until 9:30 last night and the last thing I wanted to do was sit at the table and look at a computer.  My apologize but my bed was just calling my name.

Today was a different story.  I decided to skip the gym (my body has been hurting so badly and I’m starting to think I should listen to my muscles and stop lifting so heavily) and just go for a run.  A run is still quite a workout for me since I haven’t been running lately so I still got a good sweat in!

I ended my run at the cemetery to stop by and visit my grandma audie’s grave.  13 years ago today, it was easter and my family lost the matriarch of our family.  It was only today at work that I realized that I have been without my grandma for longer then I knew her.  Easter is a special time for my family and always tends to bring is all together no matter where we are in life.

I will forever be grateful for the time and the memories that I have of my grandma Audie.  Do me a favor… go give a loved one a hug, shoot them a text or call and just tell them how much they mean to you.  It’ll brighten their day, I promise.

What I Ate Wednesday

Breakfast – I’m momma’s guinny pig for our Easter brunch menu… she made egg and spinach and asparagus minnie muffins and I have had a few for breakfast everyday this week.  Such a fan!

I was so busy at work that the next time I was able to eat was during my lunch break.  I headed home to try a little something I had been craving.. quinoa, ricotta cheese and pizza sauce.  Sounds/looks gross but it was SO good.  So good.

My body must have known that it was deprived because I had two snacks for the remainder of the day… first up.. apples and PB!

A little later came yogurt and half a honey and oats bar.

Post run I couldn’t resist (a very addicting) Iced Oatmeal Raisin Luna bar.

Marc and I were both on our own for dinner so we made grilled chicken, sweet potatoes cottage cheese and veggies.  Right up our alley ❤

I haven’t had my snack yet for the night but believe me, I’ll be eating something else tonight 😉  I’m off to enjoy the rest of my night was Marco.  Hope everyone is having a great night!

Question of the Day – What is your favorite type of meat for dinner time?  If I could have seafood every night for dinner I would.  I realize this isn’t realistic so my next favorite is chicken.  Then steak.  YUM!
